After 20 years, we took part in SaberComp for the first time! Over the past few months we've been working on finishing not one but two entries.
SaberComp is an international competition for filmed lightsaber choreographies that has been held every year since 2002. SaberComp grew out of the former „LCC“ (Lightsaber Choreography Competition) by TheForce.net and has produced several community classics such as Art of the Saber, Ryan vs Dorkman or Ferocity .
The jury is made up of former winners and participants from previous years, who rate the entries in the categories choreography, editing, visual effects, production design and cinematography. There's usually an audience award as well.
For this year's contest we submitted two short choreography videos:
Edge of Light was filmed back in 2023 at a team meeting. The choreography between Markus from our team and Kevin from the Saber Academy Karlsruhe already existed before that, but we wanted to use the great location to capture it on film.
A very special highlight of the shoot was the presence of Hans-Georg Panczak, the German voice of Luke Skywalker and a longtime friend of ours, who joined us that day.
Surrounded was filmed in January 2024 at a castle during the United Fandom meetup. The wintry temperatures and the quickly fading light of the sunset posed quite a few challenges during the shoot.
When Saberproject was founded, the only higher-quality lightsaber replicas you could buy were from Master Replicas. We modded them with high-power LEDs to make them better suited for shows.
But the goal was always to own a lightsaber of our own and use it in shows. Over the years, a lot of designs have come together, and we're now presenting them to you in our next big Lightsaber Database update!
Discover the different lightsabers of our members, with lots of details, build photos and pictures from our shows and other events. Some of them are already more than 17 years old!
A successful, moving and great year 2025 is behind us. We were at numerous events, grew our community, made new contacts and, most importantly, had a great time with you all around lightsabers.
We started the year with something big. In Switzerland, the collaboration between Star Wars and Coca-Cola was announced. A red carpet just over one meter wide was laid out on the ice of SC Bern's stadium, so that Hannes and Tim could perform our first lightsaber fight on ice.
We celebrated our 19th birthday with two highlights. Part of the team represented the fascination of lightsabers internationally, and for the first time in Denmark. We were there with our booth and the workshop show at the Sci-Fi Con in Randers. Of course we ran into Darth Lego and many other lightsaber fans there, so this certainly wasn't our last visit to our Nordic neighbor.
At the same time, we announced our partnership with the Straight Outta Rim Discord server. Lots of lightsaber fans, and especially lightsaber builders, have already gathered there to help each other with building, programming and fine-tuning their lightsabers. There are also exciting discussions about lightsaber lore, everything Star Wars and the wider fandom. Note that the community is German-speaking. Join the community right away!
Shortly after this exciting weekend came our annual team training. Over the long Easter weekend we all come together in Schneeberg from all over Germany to train hard for the next performances and shows. We plan, tinker and work out lots of new ideas around lightsabers and our club, so that we can offer you even more. But of course there was plenty of fun and friendship too, so it was with heavy hearts that we said goodbye to each other until the next events.
In early May we celebrated 10 years of The Intern Awakens. Our fan film about an intern working in a toy warehouse. But nobody told him about the powerful lightsaber, and soon a battle of good versus evil breaks out in the warehouse over who gets to own it.
Late last year, we were contacted by „Team Star Story“, a school club at the Maristenschule in Recklinghausen led by Myleen and Marie. There, students can learn how to handle a lightsaber, but also acting skills, because once every half year there's a big performance for teachers, parents and anyone interested. In May we were invited and gladly answered the call. We were impressed by the students' professionalism and the ideas behind the story. We'll follow their careers with great interest.
As one of three new team members, we were able to recruit Huyang, the Jedi Order's professor of lightsaber construction. Together with him we built our Lightsaber Database and expanded it over the course of the year with additional sabers and the different versions of sabers already in it. Feel free to take a look at our Lightsaber Database .
In July came a big highlight, the Project Area 51 in Kiel. The northernmost and nerdiest convention in Germany. In addition to our stage show "Im Zwielicht der Macht", we presented the Saberproject Living Room for the first time, together with many friendly lightsaber clubs from all over Germany. Together we threw a big lightsaber party. The event, with exhibitors and vendors for every corner of nerdom, also raised over €6,000 for charity.
After a short summer break, the team's next stop was Bremen. In early September, botanika was waiting for us with the event "botanika goes space". In the Japanese Garden we got to show various fights as well as tips and tricks for handling a lightsaber. The audience then tried them out right away with their own homemade sabers. We were also able to welcome Jenny and Wibke as new members of Team Saberproject.
Our event-tastic September continued with a company summer party, also in Bremen. Here too we got to surprise the guests with some choreographies and take them into the world of the Jedi and Sith.
After three events in the north, in mid-September our journey took us to Nuremberg for the Noris Force Con, the best fan-run Star Wars convention in Germany. Every three years this event opens its doors and brings all the fans together for a good cause. Of course we played our story show here and were even able to expand it with some of the visitors. In a cooperation with GTC Saberstudio, a beginner saber was available for the first time, alongside the Saberproject Shop lightsabers. So you can practice hard at home with the help of our trick videos .
To round off September, we went to the Technik Museum Speyer for the twelfth time for the Science Fiction Meetup. We got to play our story show "Im Zwielicht der Macht" six times in total, and also had great conversations with you about lightsabers. Brand new were lightsaber crafting for Jedi younglings and lightsaber training for Jedi Padawans and students of the dark side. These were hugely popular.
Alongside GTC, for lightsabers of all kinds, in November we were able to welcome S.P.A.C.E as another partner. S.P.A.C.E brings you high-quality action figures and other collectibles, and not just from Star Wars.
At the end of the year, Comic Con Stuttgart was waiting for us. As part of the Galactic Cantina, we represented the Star Wars fandom in a dedicated area at the fair. Among Mandalorians, droids, stormtroopers and many more, we showed our lightsaber skills and gave lightsaber workshops.
To close the year, Team Star Story gave a second performance, and we were invited as guests once again. Under the direction of Myleen and her team, the fifth and sixth graders went one better and presented an entire musical show with lightsaber action.
As you can read, it was a truly fantastic year. We thank everyone who was with us this year and look forward to making next year at least as great.
We're starting 2026 as our anniversary year and celebrating 20 years of Saberproject!
In the almost 20 years that Saberproject has existed, we've always had great supporters and partners.
We had a particularly long and successful cooperation with Toy Palace. Among other things, both of our short films were made there, and we always enjoyed working with Marco.
When Toy Palace closed in January 2025, it left a gap for us that we can now finally fill: Starting now, we're happy about a new partnership with S.P.A.C.E, an equally well-known and established retailer.
S.P.A.C.E has been around for more than 27 years! At space-figuren.de you'll find collectibles and merchandise from all kinds of universes, from games, anime and comics to various movie franchises and, of course, Star Wars.
We're looking forward to working with Sven and his team! There's nothing more we can reveal at the moment, but we have lots of ideas.
So be sure to check out S.P.A.C.E , because your Search for Popular Actionfigures and Collectibles Ends here.
Here's to a great partnership!
Feel free to follow S.P.A.C.E on these channels too
While we prepare for the last big event, we'd also like to give you an update on the whole team. There were a few changes this year.
A few months ago, Tanja, Caro and Jenny left us for personal reasons. But they haven't disappeared, they just have other interests now.
The new members
Since September, Wibke and a new Jenny have joined us. We're happy to finally welcome the two of them to our ranks, after they've supported us at events time and again for several years. Welcome, you two, we're glad you're here!
At Noris Force Con and at the Technik Museum Speyer, we also expanded a particularly exclusive club: Hans-Georg Panczak, Corinna Siegenthaler as well as Tim's parents Ralph and Ursula are our new honorary members. All of them have supported us in many different ways over the past year(s/decades), and we are very grateful to them for that.
On our new page you'll find an overview of our Honorary Members:
For the twelfth time we were guests at the Science Fiction Meetup at the Technik Museum Speyer, the highlight of our year, every year. And as always it felt like[…]
That was the Science Fiction Meetup at the Technik Museum in Speyer. A great event with 16,000 visitors and six well-attended shows has come to an end. On top of that, we offered workshops and lightsaber crafting for the first time, and certainly not for the last time in Speyer.
Many thanks to all the visitors, it was great to see you!
September is always a busy month for us. Before the big Science Fiction Meetup at the Technik Museum Speyer next week, we were already guests at botanika goes space in Bremen and once again part of Noris Force Con, which took place for the seventh time this year and is already celebrating its 20th anniversary.
One of the highlights was meeting Diana Lee Inosanto, who plays Morgan Elsbeth in The Mandalorian, Ahsoka and Tales of the Empire. As a martial artist (her godfather is Bruce Lee), she loved our show.
You'll find lots of photos and impressions from the events here:
One date that regularly shows up in our calendar every third year is the NFC, and it's an absolute must. This time the con celebrated its 20th anniversary! Of course […]
With kind permission from Propstore.com almost 50 new image galleries are now online. High-resolution (reference) photos of lightsaber props originally used in the Star Wars films can now be found here for all three trilogies.
There's a lot to discover, for example the different stunt versions of various hilts, or training and prototype designs.
