The New Intern lightsaber is the stunt version of Tim’s Xiphias from RISE OF THE LAST INTERN.
During filming it was originally an empty hilt with a carbon stunt blade instead of the polycarbonate blade we usually use in our shows. This type of blade was also used when filming the Star Wars prequels.
The hilt picked up quite a few scratches during filming, since it was thrown onto the hard hall floor and was always used whenever the original wasn’t supposed to get damaged.
In the film, Jo’s character, the New Intern, is handed the lightsaber by the returning Intern (played by Tim’s father Ralph).
So it only made sense that we ceremoniously handed Jo the stunt version, now with electronics installed by Markus, on premiere night in November 2021. Just like in the film, Jo and Tim now have the same lightsaber.
