Jedi-Con 2008 – Day 3

Sunday, March 24, 2008 * Collecting autographs – Trial training – Showtime – Teardown
On Sunday we had to get up early again. After a quick breakfast we were already on our way back to Düsseldorf. At 8:45 we were let into the fan area to our booth, so we set up the computers and sorted everything again, playing a little with Florian's Hasbro R2 („Hey R2, Game Mode“). But we didn't have much time, because the first visitors were already coming to our booth. So once again there was fighting, talking and advising 😉
Of course we still wanted to collect the autographs promised the day before, so Alex, Eddy and Lukas went off to have their bags signed by Steve Sansweet. The „nice lightsabercarryingbags“, as Steve called them, were then also signed by Daniel Logan. Tim had Daniel Logan sign an MR display as well: „You beat me twice, know wonder I was a bounty hunter“
At lunchtime we went outside once more to rehearse for the performance one last time. We went over distances and steps again. We spent the rest of the time at the booth with nerves and more conversations.
At 15:30 the fan area closed and the con was actually over, all that was left was the closing ceremony with our performance! We put on our costumes and went backstage, where Robert Eiba and Steve Sansweet, among others, were waiting!
At first we were told that we would be announced, but shortly afterwards we were told to just start as soon as the music began. We were all a little nervous, although Lukas stood out a bit from everyone else ( 😉 ). Alex could barely see anything under his Vader helmet, but was panicking about tripping over his cape (which almost happened, since an FX was lying in the way). Jeremy Bulloch came off stage relaxed and just told us he had already warmed up the audience for us. 🙂
As the first notes of the first song „Rolling Fighting“ sounded, Eddy was the first to go on stage! Tim followed shortly after, and once the sabers were ignited the fight „Anatim vs. Swaktor“ began. Eddy and Tim made no mistakes, and after a fast, aggressive fight Swaktor went down! But no time to recover, because Andre entered the stage third, and „Scoulcher vs. Anatim“ began! Unfortunately a small mistake happened, so one part was repeated and the music no longer quite fit, but Anatim couldn't hold out against the many blows of Scoulcher's double blade and went down after two kicks and a stab! Lukas entered the stage as the Jedi's last hope, and with lots of spinning the supposedly final fight „Shelby vs. Scoulcher“ broke out! The fight went almost flawlessly, and Shelby defended the honor of the Jedi and struck Scoulcher down! All seemed won, if not for the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader himself, entering the stage! With ease Vader fended off the blows of two sabers and got rid of Shelby with a simple Force choke…
And so the hope of the Jedi was dashed once again…
All in all, our performance was a success, even if a few small mistakes happened.
Robert Eiba called us all back on stage, and we got a big round of applause!
We were, and still are, proud of ourselves that everything went so well in front of such a big audience!!
After we had taken off our costumes and slipped back into our team outfits, we watched the last five minutes of the closing ceremony, and the con was officially over.
Now came the unofficial end: the teardown…. well, after a few minor organizational difficulties, all the cars were loaded again and we headed to Tim's place.
There we talked all evening about everything we had experienced and watched our performance again on video!
The con was a complete success for us. We were able to present ourselves well and had lots of fun! Many thanks to the organizers and to everyone we met, hopefully we'll see each other again at the next con 😉
