Role at SP?
On the team I’m mainly responsible for our YouTube presence and everything else to do with videos and the like. At events I’m out and about with the camera, edit the videos afterwards, come up with new video concepts together with my teammates and try to bring them to life, so you always get cool new content from us. It’s also in my hands to make our show dialogue understandable for you, because I take care of both the voice recordings themselves and the editing on the PC.
Best memory with the team?
From my early days, when I was still a big Saberproject fan myself, my best memory is definitely Legoland 2011. That’s where I saw SP live for the first time, and watching a show from the front row was just an unforgettable experience. Since becoming a member myself, I can’t pick THE best memory. Every meetup and event is uniquely great. You experience so many exciting things together with your friends, no matter whether you’re being taught by Nick Gillard or standing on stage together performing for you. All these moments are the reason this hobby is so much fun.
Three things that must not be missing at any event?
The most important thing at events is definitely good people. Since we live so far apart, events are among the few occasions when we meet, so it’s always great to be out with the whole team. Of course you also always meet old friends at events that you rarely see, and get to know an incredible number of great new people.
What definitely must not be missing at any event is you, our fans. If what we do didn’t thrill you even half as much, what we do would be pretty boring. It’s always a lot of fun to answer your questions and get talking with you.
Since we usually travel from far away to an event for several days, good organization is also important to me. The more relaxed the event runs, the more relaxed we are ourselves, and the more fun we can have in our time together.
Why lightsabers, anyway?
Jedi and Sith are definitely the coolest roles in the entire Star Wars universe. The dream of recreating the fast fights from the movies with my own lightsaber has followed me since childhood. It’s incredibly fun to come up with new choreographies and shows together and become part of the Star Wars story yourself.
So: keep lightsaberin’! 🙂
How did you join the team?
In 2010 I read up on FX lightsabers and came across the Saberproject homepage. At the end of 2010 I finally got my first own FX and of course wanted to be just as cool as the guys on the team. So I trained hard, and at the aforementioned Legoland 2011 I met the team in person. Since then we’ve been in close contact and close friendships have formed, so that I’ve been a permanent part of the team since 2014.
