Back to the lightsaber

Nick Gillard visited us for our 10th anniversary (read the report here).
As stunt coordinator of the Star Wars prequels, Nick was given one of three cases filled with lightsaber props after the prequels wrapped.

In 2017, Tim had the opportunity to visit Nick at his home and take a look at Nick's collection. Nick has since sold most of the sabers through Propstore.com, which makes the 2017 visit all the more special.

The case

A few impressions of all the sabers with their contents. Tim had brought his own lightsaber and placed it next to them every now and then for reference.

Anakin Skywalker ROTS Hero

A lightweight, detailed prop that could be worn on the belt in the film.

Count Dooku ROTS Heroes

Nick had two different versions here: a bigger, heavier metal version and a light variant that was worn on the belt in the film. On the emitter of the solid version, the „salt shaker“ attachment stands out, just like on the Obi-Wan Kenobi TPM hero.

Mace Windu ROTS Hero

Also a lightweight prop to be worn on the belt.

Obi-Wan Kenobi ROTS Hero (Brown Neck)

This version stands out because the area below the emitter („neck“) is brown and not copper-colored as usual. Hasbro's Obi-Wan Kenobi ROTS with removable blade is based on this version.

Obi-Wan Kenobi TPM/AOTC/ROTS Salt Shaker

This metal prop was never used in the film like this, only in test footage on set for Episode III. It's based on the design from TPM and AOTC, or rather derives from their props.

Darth Sidious ROTS Hero

Metal hero prop.

Darth Vader ROTS

This solid metal prop never made it into the film and can only be seen in promo shots.

Kit Fisto ROTS Stunt / Nick Gillard Stunt Saber

This heavily simplified hilt is ultralight. Nick often used it for training and with the actors during his supporting work on the Episode III video game. By far the lightest prop in the collection. It's comparable to the weight of an empty polycarbonate blade.

Obi-Wan Kenobi TPM/AOTC Stunt

This stunt lightsaber was used at least in TPM, but probably in AOTC too. Since it's a resin replica of the hero prop, it's slightly bigger than the original. You can clearly see how the carbon blade is screwed to the hilt.

Mace Windu ROTS + comparison with other stunt lightsabers

The hilt is made of resin and is therefore also slightly bigger than the actual hero prop.

Is the archive incomplete?

Even though we put a lot of work into the content ourselves, we don’t know everything and don’t own every lightsaber.
