After his fall to the dark side and his duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar, Darth Vader had to adjust to a new reality: wearing a life-support suit forever. To match it, the young Sith Lord needed a new lightsaber.
Behind the Scenes
The lightsaber never actually appears in the film, but it does in various promo shots released for Episode III. The design is already strongly based on Darth Vader’s lightsabers from the original trilogy, but also features the chrome elements of prequel trilogy lightsabers.
