Count Dooku, also known as Darth Tyranus, led the Separatists for more than three years during the Clone Wars, until his master, Darth Sidious, betrayed him to get one step closer to his true goal: turning Anakin Skywalker to the dark side.
The lightsaber design differs from the AOTC version in only one detail on the pommel. The pommel in ROTS is chrome, unlike the matte version in the previous film.
