Legoland 2013 – Day 1 & 2

Thursday/Friday, May 30+31, 2013 * Earlier setup – Saberproject Surround System – Kamino weather
Unlike in previous years, this year we arrived at Legoland in Günzburg as early as Wednesday evening, so that we could set up our booth in peace instead of doing it early on Thursday as in previous years.
But since part of our team was running late, we couldn't start setting up until after midnight, and so we hauled, screwed and adjusted late into the night, until at around three o'clock our booth finally adorned the room of the Mindstorms Center in its full size and stocked with all our sabers.
Exhausted, we collapsed into our beds to get at least a few hours of sleep before the four-day event.
On Thursday we met at our booth as early as eight o'clock, because before Legoland opened its gates to visitors at 10:00, we wanted to run through our new stage program a few times on the stage of the Legoland arena.
Even though these final rehearsals are routine for us, we were particularly excited this year, because besides our new program we were also testing our brand-new, self-developed „Saberproject Surround“ wireless system, which would play the sounds of the lightsabers in real time directly through the big sound system of the Legoland arena.
Since we hadn't had a chance to test this new feature thoroughly until then, a lot of tension fell away when the familiar hum of the lightsabers came out of the speakers. In a good mood, we rehearsed our program, which we would perform three times that day.
Even though not all run-throughs went flawlessly, we returned to our booth in good spirits at half past nine, to soon welcome the first visitors and tell young and old fans about the elegant Jedi weapon.
So the morning flew by, until we finally headed to our dressing room and left our booth in the trusted hands of our helpers, without whose help we couldn't have taken part in this event, and who deserve our very special thanks at this point!
Since we shared the dressing room with the dance group Tanztreu, whom we already knew from last year, we changed in tight quarters and put on our new costumes, because this year we wanted to give our program the finishing touch not only with the Saberproject Surround System, but also with new, more authentic costumes.
When, dressed like this and armed with our sabers, we stepped into the arena, which was filled to the last seat, our initial nervousness was quickly forgotten and we fought our way motivated through the first of a total of ten performances.
After a short lunch break afterwards, we relieved our helpers at the booth, handed out FX lightsabers, talked about the different types and, in between, presented our homemade sabers in the arena at the other two shows.
That evening we went to bed early, since we were feeling the lack of sleep from the night before.
When we woke up on Friday morning, the view out the window dampened our mood. As expected, it had started raining, and unfortunately it wouldn't stop until Sunday.
Tired and a little dejected, we arrived at Legoland at around half past eight, arranged the sabers at our booth and got ready to greet the first weatherproof visitors.
Since the arena is only partly covered, the audience was smaller that day too, but that didn't make our performance any less motivated, and we earned big applause for it, even though we were freezing despite the physical exertion when we returned to our dressing room.
Glad to be back in the warm and dry, we kept the booth staffed and sent our helpers off for their lunch break. Despite the rain we looked forward to our other two shows, but were also grateful when we could finally take off our costumes for the day and spend the rest of it at the booth.
After the park closed at 19:00 and we had driven to our guesthouses, we sat together for a while, waiting for the last of our helpers, who wouldn't arrive until the night.
