Star Wars Celebration Europe II – Day 2

26 July 2013 @ 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Saturday, July 27, 2013 * Workshops – Episode II in 3D – Party in the evening

Exhausted from a long first day of the event, on Saturday morning we made our way to the fairgrounds in Essen.
Our anticipation quickly grew, because the halls were already bustling. The vendors were restocking their booths, the members of the 501st Legion were slipping into their costumes, and we sorted the sabers and tidied up too. Shortly afterwards, the first visitors found their way to us, asked us all about the Jedi weapon and had us teach them a trick or two with the lightsaber.

While part of the team explored the grounds, watched the premiere of Episode II: Attack of the Clones in 3D or attended the panel of an actor from the Star Wars films, the others held down the fort at our booth.
Finally, some of us changed for the first workshop of the day and, as Jedi and Sith, headed to the area cordoned off especially for us, where some excited kids were already waiting.

Even though we offered workshops several times on all three days, the crowd was always enormous, so it was hard to make ourselves heard. When we had finally equipped the many younglings with lightsabers, we showed the excited kids a simple combat system, which they could then use on Darth Vader to put him to flight.

Impressed by this little show, Sat.1 approached us afterwards and asked if we'd be willing to film a few shots for their breakfast TV show. Happily we let them wire us up and showed two Indian travelers, who were touring all over Germany in search of all kinds of curiosities, how to properly handle a lightsaber.

Back at the booth, we kept our costumes on to walk around the fairgrounds in them and maybe run through a choreography or two. This way the second day also passed much faster than we liked, and when the gates closed to visitors at around 18:00, we packed up our belongings shortly afterwards too and spontaneously decided to use the nice weather to have something to eat in the Grugapark with some friends of the team.

After falling hungrily on our pizzas after what felt like an eternity, we visited a small bar where some members of the German Garrison had also stopped in.

And so the hours went by until we finally paid after midnight and headed home, while friends and acquaintances from the German Garrison kept on drinking diligently.
