Power of the Force Convention 2017

On August 19 and 20, the Power of the Force Convention took place at the Turbinenhalle in Oberhausen. Set up as a pure Star Wars event, it brought together exhibitors, vendors and also some people who worked on the Star Wars saga. Besides the German Garrison and the Rebel Legion – German Base Yavin, we were there as exhibitors with some members, to spread some information about lightsabers and our activities using exhibits on display.
But we didn't only bring lightsabers to exhibit, some of them could also be tried out. Hendrik, Markus and Tim also performed a few choreographies now and then, as long as Tim wasn't busy with his actual job as official host. Since we had set up camp near the stage, we could follow Tim as he hosted the panels with all kinds of star guests.
Among others, he interviewed Spencer Wilding, who appeared as Darth Vader in Rogue One, Guy Henry, who played Orson Krennic's rival within the Empire and later Death Star commander Wilhuff Tarkin, and Ingvild Deila, who played Princess Leia in Rogue One. Another highlight was the appearance of Hans-Georg Panczak, the German voice of Luke Skywalker, who captivated the audience with a reading. Despite some adversity, Tim confidently guided everyone through the day and coaxed a story or two out of the guests.
Besides attending the panels, which Tim hosted on both days, you could stock up on merchandise from the many vendors, get an autograph from the stars for a few euros or have your picture taken with the many costumed fans. On Saturday evening there was also a dinner with the stars, where you could chat casually with the star guests over a drink in a family atmosphere.
We had fun on both event days and met lots of old friends and new people, including a small delegation from the fan group "Outer Rim Kiel", only a few months old, from the far north, with whom we hit it off right away. So after an intense weekend with lots of new impressions, we drove home to recharge for the next two weeks, in which we would be at both gamescom and Phantastika.
