Phantastika

On the first weekend of September, two weeks after the Power of the Force Convention, Phantastika took place for the first time, also in Oberhausen. The "Festival of the Fantastic" brought together especially authors and publishers from the fantasy genre, so we were one of the more exotic participants. But there were also Star Trek replicas and a big exhibition of costumes and figures from Doctor Who to marvel at.

For the first time in over a year, we had our booth with us again. There we presented all kinds of lightsabers from our collection to interested visitors. Besides readings, audio dramas and a screening of the film "Mara und der Feuerbringer", there were also various workshops. Visitors could get creative and build their own TARDIS, or get active and take part in the sword fighting workshop led by "Game of Thrones" star Ian Beattie. We offered a workshop three times a day too, introducing lots of enthusiastic participants to the basics of show lightsaber combat. After the workshop, the participants had to face the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader, on the main stage and prove their skills.

On Saturday evening the German Phantastik Award ceremony took place, interrupted by various show acts. We took part with a mini show too, a concept we'd like to develop further for upcoming events, so stay tuned!

On Sunday afternoon our only complete show of the weekend finally took place. There we played our program "Ein Funken der Hoffnung" ("A Spark of Hope"), freshened up at short notice, which we had already performed on various occasions last year.
And so the event came to an end in the late afternoon. We tore down the booth in record time, packed up all the sabers and headed home.
