Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Episode IV lightsaber is the Jedi Master’s last lightsaber. As a general in the Clone Wars, he built it to replace the lightsaber he lost on Geonosis and also took it with him into exile on Tatooine.
After he became one with the Force, it’s unclear what happened to the hilt.

Behind the Scenes
Since the lightsaber was taken apart again after filming wrapped so the parts could be used elsewhere, it was unclear for a long time which parts the hilt was assembled from. Today, thanks to a lot of research by fans, especially on the Replica Prop Forum , the parts are known.
Here’s an overview from emitter to pommel:
- Emitter: balance pipe from a Rolls-Royce Derwent 8/9 jet engine (female section)
- Grenade: handle of a British rifle grenade (No. 3 Mk1, 1916)
- Clamp: Graflex clamp with Exactra bubble strip, as on Luke’s lightsaber in ANH
- Transistors: two unknown types with washers, mounted on the clamp at “nine o’clock”
- Booster: part of a Browning ANM2 (.303 Mk II) aircraft machine gun (between barrel and flash hider)
- Pommel: chrome-plated faucet handle (“Starlight” by Armitage Shanks)
- D-ring: attached to the pommel
The stunt variant of the hilt was later used for stunts in ESB and ROTJ. The Luke Skywalker ROTJ V2 is nothing more than a modified stunt version of the Obi-Wan Kenobi ANH stunt.
