Science Fiction Meetup 2019

On the last weekend of September, the Technik Museum Speyer once again opened its doors to costumed fans from all galaxies and all eras. For the 12th time, fiction met reality here. 

The backdrop of the Technik Museum Speyer, with its airplanes, submarines and cars from every era, still amazes us after all these years. That's why we look forward every year to being guests at this unique location.

Just like the year before, we were there with our new booth again, where we tell people about our hobby, take photos with other lightsaber enthusiasts or even sell a few sabers.

As a small pilot project, our newest member Johanna came up with a quiz for this year, where participants could prove their knowledge about our club or Star Wars in general and win great prizes.

As you can see, there's plenty to do at our booth, and the mood in Speyer is always relaxed and the fun factor high.

Besides our booth, on both Saturday and Sunday we presented our new show, which we had been rehearsing since Easter, on the big stage of the "Hangar 10" event hall. On Sunday, this led to the first really big mishap in our show history.

Sure, a few years ago Tim took a lightsaber blade to the face and lost part of his front tooth, but since he finished the show unfazed, nobody noticed this incident. This time, however, the mishap was hard to hide: in the middle of the program, the sound cut out completely. No dialogue, no sound effects, no music and certainly no more lightsaber sounds. While our performers tried to fill the gap as best they could, things at Stefan's tech desk were close to panic. But Tim managed to bridge the roughly ten-minute pause entertainingly by spontaneously asking the audience to "hum" the lightsaber sounds for us.

After Stefan had found and fixed the problem, we were able to finish the show, and there were no more failures at the other shows that weekend.

This year, too, we look back on a really great event that's a fixed date in our event calendar every year. Some faces you only see once a year in Speyer, and we hope to take part in this unique event with our friends from other fan groups for many more years.
