Fantasydays 2010 – Day 3
3 October 2010 @ 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Sunday, Oct 3, 2010 * Workshop – Show – Closing – Teardown
Sunday morning began rather leisurely for the part of the team that had stayed at the hotel and partied with the Ring-Stars late into the night. Shortly before half past nine, after a hearty breakfast, we went to our booth to get everything ready for the visitors. When every saber was neatly back in its place, the rest of us arrived at the Novotel too, and so we awaited the first visitors.
Once again that day it wasn't as busy as we had actually hoped. Still, our booth attracted a lot of interest, and we had a lot of fun answering people's questions and helping them out.
Since the grounds only gradually filled up around noon, we once again had the opportunity beforehand to wander around in small groups and look at the booths. Eddy and Max had great fun letting loose on the various consoles in the big games room, while Jana had a large – frighteningly real-looking – scar painted on her face at one of the booths.
Just like on Friday and Saturday, we held two lightsaber workshops again that day. Here too, despite the small number of visitors, turnout was quite high, so once in the morning and once in the afternoon lots of kids, but also some adults, spun and fought with humming blades in the basement of the Novotel and had a lot of fun doing it.
Happy with our performance so far, after the second workshop we headed for the changing rooms to transform into Jedi and Sith for our last performance. Apart from a few small mishaps, our show went without problems this time too, and even though there weren't many spectators in the audience today either, they were thrilled and we got lots of applause.
Shortly afterwards the closing ceremony took place, and since we were to give one more short performance there, we hurried to get backstage again quickly. So we showed our freestyle program once more and posed for the visitors until the music stopped. Then the host said a few more words, and we went backstage to watch the Fantasydays closing video from there.
Unfortunately, it couldn't be shown due to a technical glitch, so Marc Blasweiler and his staff quickly bridged the awkward pause by starting a procession across the stage, in which of course we couldn't be missing with our lightsabers. The video still couldn't be shown afterwards, but our spontaneous act got a few laughs, so there were no complaints about the glitch.
After chatting briefly with a few people and saying goodbye, we went to the booth in good spirits to slowly but surely start tearing down. Our booth neighbors, the Strawberry Heroes, had a little surprise for us: they dropped to their knees in front of us as a very special compliment and loudly congratulated us once more.
In a good mood and with music, we finally got to the teardown, and late in the evening, tired but happy and satisfied with this successful weekend, we finally left the Novotel in Neuss and headed home.
Even though the Fantasydays unfortunately weren't as well attended as the organizers had hoped, we had a lot of fun and hope to be there again next year when Neuss becomes the meeting place for wizards, elves and warriors.
