Episode I in 3D at CinemaxX Mülheim

11 February 2012 @ 8:00 am – 12 February 2012 @ 5:00 pm

Saturday and Sunday, Feb 11/12, 2012 * Helpers – BoH – D-Box

Just in time for the cinema release of Star Wars Episode I in 3D, we were guests with the team and our booth at the Cinemaxx in the Rhein-Ruhr-Zentrum in Mülheim.

We all met in Mülheim on Friday evening to set up our booth for the weekend. When we all arrived at Andre's place after midnight, we soon went to bed exhausted, since we wanted to be well rested for the coming days.
Even though the first screening didn't start until 12 and we therefore didn't need to be at the cinema until quite late, we got up early to pack the remaining sabers and then drove to Mülheim. With us were Kulti and Daggi, who would support us that weekend, and Luca, Hendrik and Dino (also loyal visitors to our chat) arrived at the Cinemaxx a little later to lighten our load.

We quickly realized that the first screening of the day wouldn't be very well attended, so Tim, Daggi and Chris decided to use the chance to watch Episode I in 3D. But before the film started, there was a special highlight for us: the cinema operators had agreed to show our short film Battle on Hoth (BoH), made a few years ago during a vacation of some team members, on the big screen.
There were some technical problems during this first showing, but we were still thrilled to see our film on the big cinema screen. And since BoH was shown before every screening, the initial errors were quickly fixed.

But it wasn't only BoH that made this first screening a special experience: the Cinemaxx in the Rhein-Ruhr-Zentrum is one of the few cinemas with so-called D-Boxes. These are seats that vibrate in sync with the action, turning Star Wars 3D into a 4D experience.

After the screening we hurried back to the booth to let moviegoers try out lightsabers or answer all kinds of questions. The day passed quite quickly, but we knew we had to hold the fort at the booth until the late screening ended at 2 am. Tired, we found some chairs to relax a bit, since there wasn't much going on at such a late hour. While some fell asleep, the others sat in front of the booth chatting. When the last visitors had left the cinema, we packed up our things too and drove home.

The next day we arrived at the Cinemaxx as early as 10:00, since that day the German Garrison would also be there to put the visitors in a real Star Wars mood with their elaborate costumes. We were happy to see many a familiar face under the helmets and masks, chatting or fighting, since the foyer was mostly quite empty during the screenings. That day too we were actively supported by our helpers, so once again a big thank you for that!

So Sunday flew by too, and after the last visitors had left the cinema at 20:00, we could start tearing down our booth. A few hours later we set off for home, exhausted.
