Luke Skywalker ESB

Luke Skywalker ESB

In Episode V, Luke Skywalker still uses his father’s lightsaber, including at the end of the film in the duel against that very father, now Darth Vader. In the three years between the events of ANH and ESB, the lightsaber’s look was slightly changed: the clamp is now on the right side of the hilt, and the glass eye was replaced by another red button.

Behind the Scenes

The basic shape of the hilt is still a Graflex camera flash handle (“Graflex 3-cell”) from the 1940s; only the large reflector of the flash was removed. Instead of the bubble strip used in ANH, a piece of a circuit board sits in the clamp. Which original part this is can no longer be said with 100% certainty, but it’s most likely part of an HP-44 bus type or Otis elevator board.

Only six instead of seven grips, or so-called T-tracks, are attached to the lower part of the hilt, and they are now screwed on.

The D-ring is now attached with a different part, and the clamp now points to the right. The Graflex lettering on it is also covered with chrome tape.

The so-called beer tap is missing, meaning the washer below the upper red button.

Reviews and Galleries

For this lightsaber design we have various reviews and picture galleries of versions that are or were available to buy.

Is the archive incomplete?

Even though we put a lot of work into the content ourselves, we don’t know everything and don’t own every lightsaber.
