First impression
The hilt of this FX lightsaber looks plain and, at first glance, low on detail, since by its nature the saber has no protruding elements apart from the activator box.
Compared to Luke's saber from the film, it's also noticeable that the neck below the emitter turned out too thick. This makes the saber look a bit clumsy and not very authentic.
The activator box and the characteristic D-ring of the Luke Skywalker ROTJ have been implemented very convincingly.
Handling
Thanks to the overly thick neck, the saber is easy to grip, and the activator box doesn't really get in the way either. The subtle shape of the activator largely prevents accidentally switching it off.
Even though the saber only needs 3 AAA batteries compared to its predecessor, it's a bit heavier. Still, the good balance allows for confident saber handling.
Light and sound
In the Luke Episode VI FX lightsaber, too, 64 LEDs light up the blade, which looks strikingly bright and rich on this saber.
The sound is the same as on the other lightsabers, nothing has changed here. The saber has 4 clash and 3 swing sounds.
Wear
With frequent use, the activator becomes loose and a bit wobbly.
The plate on the activator box also comes off over time, but it can easily be glued back on.
Since your hand grips directly below the emitter, the copper-colored part of the neck also gradually wears off.
Verdict
The Luke ROTJ FX lightsaber impresses with its handy shape and its simple yet convincing design.
It sits exceptionally well in the hand and is ideally balanced.
That makes this saber a worthwhile investment for beginners too.
