Back to the lightsaber

Note: Vintage review – this review is from an earlier version of our homepage and is correspondingly old!

First impression
Apart from a few small details, the Master Replicas Mace Windu ROTS/AOTC FX lightsaber is very accurately made.
Only the gold center piece turned out a bit shorter and stockier on the FX version.
Of course, this saber is also a bit bigger than the original, but the difference is barely noticeable.

Handling
This lightsaber sits nicely in the hand and handles excellently, since the hilt has no major bumps or activator buttons.
This can be a big advantage, especially for rotating movements. On top of that, the rubber grip provides extra hold.
However, since the activator surface lies in the palm of your hand during a fight, unintentionally switching it on and off unfortunately isn't uncommon. Another drawback is the weight, which is relatively high due to the 6 batteries.

Light and sound
The sound module is from the 2004/05 generation, so it's rather quiet and classic. It has 4 swing sounds and 4 clash sounds. The purple isn't particularly bright, but it's brighter than the glow of the red Sith sabers.

Wear
This is the saber's Achilles heel. After extended use, the gold paint comes off the parts and the normal metal shine shows through. This doesn't look particularly nice and spoils the look.
It's less prone to dents. Like all chrome sabers, the Mace Windu is quite sensitive to scratches.

Verdict
Disassembling this MR saber is quite difficult and can't be done without damage.
Unfortunately the saber wears quite quickly, but it's basically suitable for fighting.
There are two versions of the Mace: the Episode II one from 2004 and the Episode III one from 2005. The newer model only differs from the old version in a slightly lighter gold and louder sound thanks to better speakers. Also well known is the „red blade“ misprint, an edition of the Mace AOTC in different packaging with the famous red blade instead of the purple one.

Is the archive incomplete?

Even though we put a lot of work into the content ourselves, we don’t know everything and don’t own every lightsaber.
