Saturday, Sep 20, 2008 * Meetup – Performance – Feeling at home

At 10:30 we (this time only Tim, Lukas and Andre) arrived at the Naturfreundehaus in Gelsenkirchen, where the Rebellenstützpunkt was celebrating its annual meetup. (For your information: Rebellenstuetzpunkt.de and Lichtgeschwindigkeit.de are a fan group of collectors, most of whom specialize in action figures.)

""

""

""

""

""

After we had set up our booth, the house slowly filled up. From various figures to a huge diorama, everything was there, and the love of detail was impossible to miss. Many visitors also showed great interest in our exhibits. The first conversations and discussions started very quickly, and there was plenty of shop talk about our lightsabers too.
By the afternoon, all the "rebels" had arrived and the mood got better and better. To keep everyone in good spirits, there was first some refreshment in the form of coffee and cake, while of course various figures and collectibles were traded and sold.
We ourselves had offered four Replix lightsabers for sale, three of which found an owner.

By now we had met lots of new people, and the discussing and explaining continued. The weather couldn't have been better either, so we were able to practice our choreographies once more, which we wanted to perform at dusk.
But since Lukas unfortunately had to leave the meetup early, at around 18:30, we couldn't perform the whole program the way we had actually planned. At around 17:45 Eddy (Swaktor) arrived too, who hadn't been able to come with us right away in the morning. At around 19:30 it was slowly time for our little performance, for which we had to change. Once the speakers had been moved outside and the music cued up, it began.

""

""

""

""

""

First, Tim faced Andre. After a hard fight, when Andre was already lying defeated on the ground, Eddy came to his aid at the last moment. But Eddy stood no chance against Tim and was struck down after an intense, fast fight. Andre had recovered and grabbed a double-bladed lightsaber. Against the reinvigorated Andre, Tim finally stood no chance and fell victim to his blade. After this performance we weren't really satisfied, though, since we had made a few mistakes. Our audience was thrilled nonetheless, so as an encore we offered to perform the whole program once more.
The second performance went much better, even though our strength was slowly fading. In the end we had fun, and the "rebels" liked our little show too.

Then came dinner, to fuel up for the rest of the evening. After dinner we got out our tools to repair a broken saber that one of the visitors had brought along. That way everyone interested could see how to go about such a repair and what to watch out for.
With the work done, we all made ourselves comfortable in the main hall and watched two videos, which we had a lot of fun with and laughed a lot.
We spent the rest of the evening talking shop, discussing and, of course, having small sword fights.

""

""

""

""

""

The whole meetup was simply super well organized, there was lots to see and lots to talk about, a great atmosphere, and the people were just in a great mood. Because of all that, we didn't get home until around 3:30.

At this point we'd once again like to sincerely thank everyone for the invitation, the consistently positive feedback and for welcoming us so warmly.
