Off to Switzerland!

The first of us set off on Thursday afternoon. But where to? To Switzerland, for the Beaumonde Comicspektakel in Zurich. We were very curious what awaited us there, because not only was the convention being held for the first time, it was also our first time performing outside Germany.

By around 21:30 on Friday, all of us had arrived in Switzerland, but despite the long journey there was still a lot to do before we had earned our night's rest. First, we introduced ourselves to the organizers and the con's many hard-working helpers while exploring the grounds. We took a particularly close look at the two stages. The site itself was a large sports park with a modern hall and a spacious green area. But since it was slowly getting dark, we decided to continue our exploration the next day, set up one of our new exhibition counters and then focused on the essentials: training our stage show. We practiced and practiced until 1:30 at night, so that everything would run smoothly on Saturday shortly after the con opened. Now all that was left was to find our youth hostel in Zurich and take a short but still restful nap, because on Saturday morning the tech still had to be set up and tested.

""

""

On Saturday we got going at 9:00. A lot had happened overnight. A tabletop and video game area had been set up in the hall. Actors, exhibitors and merchandise vendors were getting ready for the first guests, who were to enter the grounds from 12:00. Meanwhile, we got to know the stage technicians and were able to run through our show once more on the open-air stage. We were satisfied, because both the choreographies and the tech worked perfectly. The visitors could come.

Right at 12:00 the Comicspektakel was opened with a short speech. Shortly afterwards, at 12:30, we were already on stage to give the first guests a proper welcome with our show. Due to mixed weather, the rush of visitors unfortunately didn't come until early afternoon. Still, we won people over with our show and warmed up the crowd a bit. After a short lunch break we couldn't believe our eyes, because the many cosplayers, including Spider-Man and Jack Sparrow, had apparently all just been late sleepers. But it wasn't only Spidey and Captain Sparrow who became photo magnets; our Vader and some of his sinister henchmen also often fell victim to the bright flashes. Another eye-catcher was the medieval sword fighting, which was carried out without any mercy and was worthy of a movie.

""

""

Shortly before our second show in the afternoon, we traveled to Harry Potter's wizarding world and played a round of Quidditch with the con visitors. Even though our brooms didn't fly and the Bludgers didn't seek out their targets on their own, we had a blast chasing the Snitch. But we barely had a breather, because soon we had to be back on stage in the multipurpose hall. That's where we were to perform twice on Sunday. Shortly after our Jedi had triumphed over Vader and the dark side, the shop talk about our weapons from a far more civilized age began, and our sword masters brought the younglings in the audience up on stage to train them in the art of lightsaber combat.

For the many spectators, the fight between the Jedi and Sith had already been a highlight, but being allowed to hold and try out a lightsaber themselves was the icing on the cake of our show for many. Glen Harmony, a Dutch folk band, brought Saturday to an energetic close. At midnight we fell into our beds like zombies and weren't to rise again before 8:00 on Sunday.
