First impression
As soon as you unpack the saber, your eye falls on the shiny gold hilt.
In terms of colors, the saber is very close to, or right on, the film saber, but the hilt is still the same size as the old Master Replicas version. If you know that predecessor, you won't notice any differences at first.

Handling
Since it's the same size as the original Master Replicas version, the hilt is relatively thick compared to other FX lightsabers.
Even though there are no annoying or protruding parts on the hilt, it feels relatively clumsy to handle.
The balance is fine thanks to the reduced weight from using only 3 AAA batteries, and simple spins are no problem.
Since the activator sits right on the grip surface, switching it off by accident is very likely.

Light and sound
The 64 LEDs are actually blue; a red plastic coating on the LED strip produces the blade's purple color, which is unique among FX lightsabers.
Depending on how full the saber's batteries are, the purple shifts strongly toward blue.
However, in a direct comparison with a blue saber, you can see a difference.
Nothing has changed in the sound configuration; the saber has the usual 4 clash and 3 swing sounds.

Wear
Over time, the gold paint on the hilt no longer shines like it did at first and becomes more matte. This makes the hilt look less classy and rather washed out.

Verdict
Hasbro's Mace Windu ROTS FX lightsaber is a successful re-release of the old Master Replicas version.
Unfortunately nothing has improved, but nothing has gotten worse either.
For fans of the Jedi Master this saber is of course a must, and for everyone else a good collector's item.
