Darth Maul TPM Force FX Lightsaber (2006)
First Impression:
The Darth Maul FX lightsabers looks on the first look like the replica from the film. It is as long as the original, with a diameter of 38.85 mm slightly thicker, but that doesn’t disturb. With the connector that is shipped with the saber, 2 Darth Maul FX can be put together to a double-sided saber. This makes this saber so interesting! One single Maul FX has a “battle damaged” design. So you can look directly at the crystal in its inner.
Handling:
The saber is quite heavy, although it runs with three AAA batteries. On top of that the weight of the thicker polycarbonate tube, which is double as the normal FX blades. If you take a single Maul FX, the balance isn’t good, the main weight is in the blade and so it is top-heavy. But if you take a second Maul FX and connect them it is a dream for each fighter. The balance is exactly in the middle, so also fast tricks can be done fast. Separating the two sabers is done fast and easy because of the ring nut. Further speciality: the activator is a twist switch, accidentally switching on or off is almost impossible! But these buttons can disturb, especially in longer trainings.
Light and Sound:
Like all ather Sith Sabers the blade shines in a nice red color. The color is nicely red, but the LEDs are too dark. The soundmodule is from 2005. It has, as all Sith sabers one clash- and five swingsounds. Unfortunately the “double-twirl“ misses.
Wearout:
There is no real wearout. The blade is stabile and the whole hilt made out of metal. But the 3 AAA batteries are quite quickly low, what leads to higher costs when you are using the saber regularly. We recommend using rechargeable batteries!
Conclusion:
The Maul FX lightsaber only in the double version makes sense. In the single version it is balanced too badly. Disassembling is done with a little power, but this saber doesn’t have a plug&play port. It also has two different versions, the first one is dull, the second glossy. In the second, the On/Off switch changed to match the non working Red Gnarled button. There is also a limited to 500 pieces edition, signed by Ray Park and in a red labeled box.
Darth Maul Episode I Force FX lightsaber released on Febrary 23, 2006.
