Luke Skywalker ESB Force FX Lightsaber (2004)
First Impression:
The Luke ESB FX lightsaber is recreated true-to-detail but it is much bigger than an original Graflex. The aperture of 42 mm (Graflex: 38,25 mm) is bigger, furthermore the lenght of 32 cm (Graflex: 27 cm) is dimensioned spacious. Besides distinctions is small details stick out. So on the pins a metallic connector is missing. Instead of 14, there are only 13 golden stripes on the activator box and the grips are not as exalted as the original.
Handling:
At first it is conspicious that the hilt feels clumsy in the hand. It is suitable for big man hands, not for hands of children. A activator is located unter the ears and is switched on trough edging. Switching off the saber accidentically happens especially when doing fast tricks. The weight is quite high because the saber runs with six AA batteries. But after getting used to it tricks and combinations can be made well. The balance point is located ahead so it is top-heavy.
Light and Sound:
The used LEDs in the blade are the same an those in the Anakin ROTS FX lightsaber´s. The soundmodul (2005/05) sounds a little “older” and is quieter than the most other fx lightsabers. It containes four swing sounds and 4 clash sounds. Nevertheless the sound tingles as it is copied from the movie.
Wearout:
After a time the activation button starts wobbling. The plastics at the emitter may get splits after a few fights but apart from that it does not ware out.
Conclusion:
There are different editions of this saber as well, but only differences on the package are known. The first release version had a bigger box than the second one, and the third one even had the new box from 2005. The original publication date of the Luke ESB was the 1. August 2004.
Resulting Mark: 6/10
