Asajj Ventress TCW FX Lightsaber (2009)
First Impression:
The first FX-lightsaber not originating from one of the six Star Wars Episodes; at first sight it really looks different than all movies' sabers.
The hilt in his basic form is not round but square, moreover the blue-metallic lacquering catches the eye immediately. The curved form reminds of the Count Dooku FX-Lightsaber, but is not as clumsy and looks rather elegant in a special way.
Handling:
Like the Count Dooku FX-Lightsaber one has to get used tot he curved hilt first - however the balance is distributed quite well. If one possesses two Ventress FX-Lightsabers one can connect them with the supplied coupler. Therewith a Staff-Saber appears forming an elongated "S".
Although having about the same length as the Darth Maul FX-Lightsaber, this staff will seem unfamiliar and one needs practice to handle this hilt right. Without practice most spins will look awry and there will be a high danger of hurting oneself.
Light und Sound:
Long did the FX-Lightsaber Fan-Community have to wait for this innovation: New sounds at last! The new sounds intensely of the first Clone Wars TV series of 2003/04 and resemble to the Prequel trilogy to a great extent. With two swinging sounds and four clashsounds this new soundboard clearly convinces in comparison with the well-known old boards of Sith-sabers. Only the switching on and off sound turns out to be weird; when listening closer one can hear two blades being activated/deactivated.
The blade's brightness has not changed; it still is a very nice and bright red.
Wearout:
Although the blue lacquering looks very nice, it starts scaling off after the slightest touch and the chrome underneath emerges. So one should really think about using this saber all the time - rather take a more solid FX-Lightsaber.
Conclusion:
The hilt's curved form clearly seems to be more elegant as the one of the Count Dooku FX-Lightsaber; the blue lacquering and the unique form turns this saber into a highlight of every lightsaber-collection.
Even one hilt looks quite impressive, one does not necessarily have to own two of them; however the unprecedented form of an "S-shaped" staff-saber looks interesting and offers lots of ways to experiment. Together with the new soundboard the Asajj Ventress FX-Lightsaber by Hasbro is a nice collectible for every lightsaber-collection.
